International Partnerships

Disasters happen everywhere. Los Angeles has had its share of emergencies and critical events -– and we have learned lessons from them.  We know that while we cannot control forces of nature or eliminate human error, we can prepare to meet disasters with force and mitigate their impact.

Part of our strategic effort involves global partnerships in preparedness. It is through these important alliances that we learn from the experience of others and share our lessons learned.

The City has offered to establish long-term cooperation and exchange of emergency management information with its sister cities around the world.

Some partnership agreements have already been signed, more are being prepared. A similar offer has been extended to all the consulates located in the city.

Some of the international projects and initiatives include :

  • A cooperative agreement for an Emergency Management Partnership between the City of Makati, Philippines, and the City of Los Angeles Emergency Operations Organization.

  • City of Los Angeles participation in the Earthquakes and Megacities Initiative (EMI).

  • A cooperative agreement for an Emergency Management Partnership between the City of Yokohama Office of Disaster Preparedness and the City of Los Angeles Emergency Operations Organization.

  • A cooperative agreement for earthquake preparedness entered into by the Federal District of Mexico and the City of Los Angeles.

  • A cooperative agreement for disaster preparedness between the City of Los Angeles and the Comision Nacional de Emergencia of the Costa Rican government.

  • A cooperative agreement for disaster preparedness between the City of Los Angeles and the City of Shanghai, China.
