Early in the morning of October 15, City of Los Angeles firefighters (LAFD) were dispatched to a large structure fire in a three-story apartment building on North Kingsley Drive in East Hollywood. After flames were finally extinguished, all residents of the 60-unit structure were, at least temporarily, left without a place of residence. (Read more details at: LAFD News).
The City quickly established a temporary overnight shelter for those affected, at the Bellevue Recreation Center operated by the Department of Recreation and Parks. Many residents used the shelter for a number of days, while setting up alternate temporary living arrangements.
Also at that location, the Emergency Management Department (EMD) hosted a daily Local Assistance Center (LAC)staffed by representatives of several City, County of Los Angeles, and other partner agencies able to assist with transitional needs of the displaced residents. As of October 27, that LAC operation is no longer in-person, however many of its resources are available by contacting the resource providers directly of visiting their websites.
