Images of hands across a heart and flame / May 2025 LA City Emergency Management Newsletter / In the wake of LA wildfires, EMD stands with families who suffered immense losses, the brave responders who risked lives, and the entire community working to rebuild. During this challenging time, it is important to remain resilient. WILDFIRE AWARENESS: Wildfires are unplanned fires that burn in forests, grasslands and dry brush areas. These fires spread quickly and can devastate natural areas and also communities.

May is "Wildfire Awareness Month" -- but for most Angelenos, awareness came early this year. Winds and fires moved rapidly across the region beginning January 7, destroying hundreds of homes and businesses.

But being AWARE and taking time to PREPARE are often not the same thing.

LA City's Emergency Management Department (EMD) offers Angelenos basic fire preparedness and safety information in the current monthly newsletter.

Read and/or download this EMD newsletter for more fire-safety planning tools.
