A team of emergency management professionals from the city of Cyberabad and the Telagana State in southern India -- including first responders, sustainability workers, and journalists, as well as a Telegana language interpreter -- were guests of the City's Emergency Management Department (EMD) in late July.

Jon Brown, in charge of EMD's Planning & Resilience Division, provided an overview of EMD operations and the department's oversight of the City's Emergency Operations Center (EOC).  General Manager Carol Parks welcomed the visitors to the EOC and provided an overview of her role during activations.  The visitors also had a chance to ask comparative questions, after coming from a region where flooding is a primary disaster concern, to "earthquake country" in California.

The group also had a chance to view the unique, underground structural makeup of EMD's host building in Downtown Los Angeles.

The group also visited emergency management operations in other areas of the United States.  The event was sponsored by the U.S Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program "Crisis & Disaster Management: A Project for India."
